Great news, also your resilience can be trained!
22 november 2022Great news, also your resilience can be trained!
Stress, whether acute or chronical, exists since early days of humankind. At that age, It kept humans on alert, in a flight or fight modus, anticipating for a great catch or a dangerous event.
In that sense, mankind hasn’t evolved all too much since those early days. With our genes and brain appearing to be 99% identical to primeval men but living in a different environment, yet we experience a stressful life also today.
It is exactly the environment we operate in that has changed tremendously. Where after a fight or flight-action early man took a break to recover, we appear to be less able to do so.
Stress, to a certain degree, increases performance. From sports we know how to train our muscles. A work-out consists out of a stress-induction followed by a recovery-phase; when applied with a certain frequency this leads to supercompensation. Resilience acts in a similar way. After a stress situation a recovery period is required; that way we reach a new balance (supercompensation) allowing us to cope more effectively with a future stress situation.
How to recover best is something very individual .There is a variety to explore from breathing exercises, to a sound sleep pattern, to meditation or even reviewing your relationships .
Ready2improve offered us some ready to use examples and exercises that could support the daily recovery, ensuring less stress impact on mind and body. These tips are an easy fit and can be equally used in a work environment. Some already took up the challenge to do the max 4 minutes breathing exercise together after their lunch break. Looking forward hearing how that went and learning about the effects.
During the entire workshop ready2improve emphasized how important it is to be aware of the good moments in your life and enjoy them. Be aware of the people and things that bring you positive energy, activate them more often, and enjoy them sincerely.
What eats or freezes your energy you need to bring down, do less or change your mindset about it.
The toolkit is full and rich, so pick, play and figure out what works best for you to become an even better version of yourself.
A warm thank you to Ready2Improve! There is a lot we -well hidden- already knew but by putting it into practice it came to life. For us to make it core in our ‘resilience fitness’.
